1. Take a Stroll through Heisler Park

Located just north of Main Beach, Heisler Park offers spectacular views of the Laguna Beach coastline. Take a half-mile stroll along the paved path to see many public art pieces. You can also enjoy a picnic on the grass or barbecue with friends. 

2. Art is Everywhere

The City of Laguna Beach has more than 100 unique works of public art. These pieces were designed and created specifically for Laguna Beach and contributed to the life of the city. Explore the many murals, statues, benches and other pieces as you stroll through town. Maps can be picked up at the Official Visitors Center.

The City of Laguna Beach provides free open air trolley service throughout the year. Schedules and routes change occasionally so please visit our Trolley Page. 

4. Monthly Art Walk

Established in 1998, First Thursday’s Art Walk is a festive, cultural evening on the first Thursday of every month. The event is free and runs from 6pm-9pm. Free trolley service runs throughout the evening, linking member gallery locations. More than 40 galleries participate, offering artist receptions, demonstrations, refreshments and live music. 6. Wine Tasting in the Canyon

The Laguna Canyon Winery offers award-winning wines that have been specially handcrafted on-site. Premium grapes are selected from small, low-yield vineyards in the Napa and Sonoma Valleys, ensuring taste, quality and flavor. Holds wine tastings. Closed Mondays and major holidays. 

7. Year-Round Whale Watching Cruises

The whale watching off Laguna Beach is exceptional with year round opportunities. View giant blue whales in the summer and fall and gray whales in winter and spring. Finback whales, minke whales, humpbacks, several species of dolphin, and more viewed year round.  Newport Landing Whale Watching and Dana Wharf Sportfishing & Whale Watching offer several whale watching cruises daily, and Captain Dave’s Dolphin & Whale Watching Safari also provides daily excursions with underwater viewing. Fun Fact: The dolphin population off Laguna’s coastline exceeds more than that of Florida, Hawaii and the Caribbean combined! 

8. Explore California’s Oldest Museum

The Laguna Art Museum focuses on the cultural heritage of California and the unique history of Laguna Beach. Exhibits California art from the 19th century to the present. Closed Mondays. Admission: General: $15; Student, Military, and Seniors 60+: $10; Children under 12 and Museum members: Free. 

9. Skimboard Shore break

Skimboarding began in Laguna Beach during the early 1920s when Laguna Beach lifeguards used to skimboard on flat pieces of wood. Since then, the sport has only gotten bigger and bolder. Read more about the history of skimming here. 

10. One-of-a-Kind Shops and Galleries

Laguna Beach is home to more than 100 galleries and one-of-a-kind shops. The artists’ village offers the complete spectrum of fine art in a casual walking environment. Whether you’re in the mood to shop for home furnishings, jewelry, surf wear, gifts or just window shop, there are many options including ready-to-wear art and unique designer accessories.

11. Laguna Beach Fairy Garden

Did you know the Laguna Beach Library has a fairy garden for kids to explore? The Laguna Beach Butterfly and Fairy Garden is an 1800sq ft wonderland on the Southeast side of the Laguna Beach Library and is managed by Kim Shields and Simone Adams! There are over 30 fairy houses and fairy scenes nestled throughout the garden and kids can write letters to the fairys!

12. Treasure Island Park

Located on the grounds of the five-star Montage Laguna Beach, this pristine park overlooks Laguna’s beautiful coast. Enjoy an art lesson on the cliffs, a picnic on the grass, or just stroll and enjoy the sun as you watch the waves below. 

13. Festival of Arts

This juried fine art show features original artwork by 140 of Southern California’s most accomplished artists. Find unique works of art, perfect for your home or business. Enjoy art workshops, tours, entertainment and a variety of special events for one admission price. The Festival of Arts runs all summer. 

14. Jazz

Enjoy live jazz concerts throughout the year in an intimate setting with world-class musicians. Doors open at 5pm; Show is from 6pm-8pm and admission is $37.50 in advance, $40 at the door. 15. Laguna Craft Guild

The Laguna Craft Guild sponsors monthly Sunday shows in the downtown area on the Main Beach cobblestones. This outdoor event features arts and crafts by local Laguna artists from 9am-4pm. Art shows are held January-June and September-November. 

16. FREE Historic Bungalow Tour

Pick up a map from our Visitor Center, and take a self-guided tour of Laguna’s historic homes. These bungalows and cottages date as far back as 1884 and contribute to Laguna Beach’s rich past and history. 

17. Hortense Miller Garden

Covering two and a half acres of the upper slopes of Boat Canyon, this beautiful garden demonstrates the range of plants, which can be grown in Southern California’s coastal zones. Visit the garden and enjoy a tour from one of the volunteer docents. Reservations are required, (949) 497-0716. 

18. Laughter Yoga

Every day the Laughter Yoga Institute meets at the northernmost end of Main Beach and practices the art of laughter yoga. Participate in this joyful experience that uses the practice of laughter as a form of exercise. 19. Sawdust Art Festival

Selected “Best Art Festival” by OC Weekly, the Sawdust Art Festival features 200 local, Laguna Beach artists. Browse paintings, jewelry, ceramics, photographs, sculptures, art glass and textiles native to the area. Demonstrations, workshops, entertainment and refreshments await you. The festival runs every summer, with seasonal events held throughout the year. 

20. Traditional Tea at Montage – Embrace the tradition of afternoon tea with a twist as the Lobby Lounge transforms into an enchanting, oceanfront tearoom. Indulge in an assortment of elevated tea-based cocktails or champagne paired alongside a creative take on the classic tea menu! Every Friday through Sunday from 12:00pm – 2:00pm June through September.

21. Whaling Wall

World-renown marine life artist Wyland has created 100 Whaling Walls, large outdoor murals of whales and other sea life throughout the world. Visit his Whaling Wall and explore his gallery. 

22. LAM Kids Summer Fridays

Every Friday drop in and create masterpieces of your own at Laguna Art Museum! From 10:30-4:00 pm every summer Friday, our STUDIO/Lab is open to all kids who want to explore their creativity and participate in hands-on art projects. Members of Education Staff will be on site to help kids find inspiration and create their works of art! Drop ins are free with museum admission. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

23. Browse North Gallery Row

Within just a short walking distance from town, North Gallery Row, located in the 300 and 400 blocks of North Coast Highway, exhibits several fine and contemporary arts galleries. Heisler Park provides a picturesque backdrop while you browse. 

24. Laguna Playhouse

A nationally recognized professional theatre right Laguna Beach! Laguna Playhouse offers an intimate atmosphere with Broadway and off-Broadway caliber performances year-round. With a seven-show mainstage season, and a number of special performances, there is always something going on. 25. Art at City Hall

Coordinated by the Laguna Beach Arts Commission, this free exhibition showcases art by local artists. Exhibit is open for viewing Monday-Friday 8am-5pm. Exhibitions rotate several times throughout the year. 505 Forest Ave, (949) 497-3311.

26. Farm Tour at The Ranch at Laguna Beach

Gather for a whirlwind tour of Scout Camp & Farm with Farmer Leo to taste the season’s harvest, discover the history of this homestead, meet the chickens, learn about crop rotation, composting, and more! Farm tours are scheduled daily for overnight resort guests only. Farm tours every Thursday are open to the community, and on Wednesdays, they occur from 9 am to 10 am. Reservations are required!

31. Visit one of the Smallest Cathedrals in the World

St. Francis by the Sea was once acknowledged by the Guinness Book of World Records as the smallest cathedral in the world. It is now the second smallest in the World at 1,008 square feet. This 42-seat cathedral was built in 1933.

32. Sunset Serenades

Enjoy a free concert in the Heisler Park Rockpile Amphitheater every Friday evening during the months of May and September. Listen to some great performers as you watch the sun set over the Pacific. Every Saturday morning from 8am-12pm, local farmers and purveyors set up shop downtown to sell their fresh goods at the Farmers’ Market. Purchase everything from locally grown vegetables, delicious fruits, beautiful flowers, freshly baked breads and much more. Located at the Lumberyard Parking Lot. Rain or shine. 

34. Play Volleyball & Basketball at Main Beach

Main Beach Park is located in the heart of downtown. Two half-court basketball courts and sand volleyball courts are available to the public. Put on some sunscreen and enjoy a pickup game!

38. MTV’s Laguna Beach – “The Real OC”

Laguna Beach came into the spotlight when MTV produced a reality show based on our City. Check out the high school, restaurants, beaches and stores that LC, Kristen and Stephen once frequented. Stop by the Official Visitors Center for a handout on the featured places. 

39. Take a Photo with Laguna’s Official Greeter

Eiler Larsen was the Official Greeter of Laguna Beach. In 1963, the City of Laguna Beach rewarded Larsen by proclaiming him the Official Greeter of Laguna Beach, and recording it on public record. Today, two statues of Larsen can be found in town. One at 329 South Coast Hwy. and one at 1200 South Coast Hwy. If you’re a history buff, stop by the Official Visitors Center for an informational handout on Larsen. 

40. Stand on Top of the World

Top of the World/Alta Laguna Park is the perfect place to view Laguna Beach’s coastline. Set above the village area, take in endless views of both the coastline and the canyon. Enjoy a picnic or take a short hike. 

41. Explore Laguna’s Outdoors

Access more than 20,000 acres of wilderness in Laguna Beach. Hike or bike on your own or take a guided tour and enjoy Laguna Beach’s beautiful outdoors.

42. Gather Around the Fire Pits

Aliso Beach Park, located in South Laguna, is the only beach that provides fire pits within town. Aliso Beach Park is a great spot for an evening bonfire. Bring your friends and make some s’mores. Fire pits are first-come, first serve. You can also reserve firepits from Lost Pier Cafe, where they will set up portable firepits, beach chairs, and s’mores!

43. Nix Nature Center

Standing as the entryway to the 20,000-acre South Coast Regional Wilderness, Nix Nature Center is the headquarters of the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park and the center of five different trails. Many activities are available including mountain biking, birding, fitness hikes, Junior Rangers and other children’s programs. Open during the weekdays from 8 am to 5 pm and during the weekends from 7 am to sunset! Entrance is free, parking $3 per day. 

44. Barbara’s Lake

Located in the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, Barbara’s Lake is Orange County’s only natural lake. Enjoy a scenic hike to Barbara’s Lake from the James Dilley Preserve or Nix Nature Center, located just north of the 73 Toll Road. 

45. Visit The Pacific Marine Mammal Center

Pacific Marine Mammal Center is the only marine mammal rescue and rehabilitation center in Orange County. Stop in to see the animals up close…you may even catch a feeding! Free admission. Donations accepted. Closed for renovations. 

46. Laguna Beach Cultural Arts Center

The LB Cultural Arts Center has monthly events and is beacon and catalyst for advancing art appreciation, enhancing the quality of life, and promoting civic and cultural development in Laguna Beach.

47. Pottery 101

Take a crack at ceramics at Artime Barro in downtown Laguna Beach. You’ll learn how to create pieces by hand and even learn how to throw on the wheel. Immerse yourself in our city’s art culture with the ultimate pottery experience here.

Every October, 50 of the best plein air painters in the country are invited to compete in the Plein Air Painting Invitational hosted by the Laguna Plein Air Painters Association. Watch the creative process unfold in front of your eyes as you stroll along the bluffs or in the parks. Later enjoy the opportunity to view or purchase works of art. 

49. Watch a Professional Skimboard Contest

Held every summer at Aliso Beach Park, The VIC  (Victoria Skimboards World Championship of Skimboarding) is the sport’s most prestigious event. Watch the world’s best skimboarders catch big waves and pull tricks as they compete for the title. 

50. Rivian South Coast Theatre

Rivian South Coast Theatre is not only a prime location for relaxing after a beach day, but it’s also a historic site! The building is a renovated version of the 1930s South Coast Theatre, which has played movies for thousands over the years! They are open all year long, boasting an array of activities & films!

51. Sawdust Art Festival Winter Fantasy

From mid-November to mid-December, the Sawdust Art Festival holds their annual Winter Fantasy festival. Check out this unique holiday event every weekend, featuring fine art and crafts from more than 100 exhibitors. Purchase unique holiday gifts for your loved ones. 

52. Reggae Night at Sandpiper

Thursday nights always bring out a fun crowd at the Sandpiper, or the “Dirty Bird” as locals call it. Here you will find people of all ages grooving to the beats of live reggae music. 

53. Drum Circle at Aliso Beach

If you’re lucky enough to be in Laguna Beach on a full moon, head down to Aliso Beach Park for a free community drum circle. If you have a drum, great! If not, don’t worry. Just bring yourself and enjoy the beats. Drumming from 7pm-10pm.

59. Learn to Dive in Laguna Beach

Laguna Beach is an MPA, or Marine Protected Reserve! The MPA covers the area of Crystal Cove (north Laguna Beach) to the southern shores at Table Rock beach, the full 7 miles of the city. Founded in 1961, Laguna College of Art + Design educates artists at all stages of their creative careers, offering Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in Drawing and Painting, Graphic Design, Illustration, Game Art and Feature Animation, and a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting. View a variety of art exhibitions throughout the year showcasing the exceptional works of both graduate and undergraduate students. Admission is free. 64. Visit Laguna’s Oldest House

This piece of Laguna history is located at 154 Pearl St. The home was built in 1883 with wood floated in from boats, wood from shipwrecks, as well as driftwood. 

65. People-Watch at Main Beach

Main Beach, Laguna’s “Window to the Sea,” is a beachfront park located in the heart of downtown Laguna. There is always plenty to see and do here at Laguna’s most bustling scene. 

66. Bette Davis House

This English Tudor home, built in 1929, overlooks beautiful Wood’s Cove. See where Bette Davis lived during the early ‘40s, located at 1881 Ocean Way. 

67. Bird Watching

Laguna Beach is a bird sanctuary, home to several unique and endangered species. Learn more about how to spot them in their natural habitat by visiting the Laguna Coast Wilderness Park. 

68. Historic Lifeguard Tower

See a piece of Laguna’s history. Located at Main Beach, this historic tower was originally part of a gas station built across the street in 1929. When the station was demolished, the tower was moved to its present location and converted for lifeguard purposes. The current and newly built Lifeguard Headquarters is located at the north end of Main Beach. 

69. Peppertree Lane

When passing through the arched brick entry of this Laguna Beach landmark, you can experience history in Laguna’s oldest shopping district. The shops enclosed offer fine dining, a saloon, clothing, gifts, gelato and more. 

70. Crystal Cove State Park

Immerse yourself in Crystal Cove’s three miles of coastline, wooded canyons, open bluffs, and offshore waters designed as an underwater park. 85. Shipwreck!

Two hundred yards offshore lies a shipwreck, the Foss 125 better known as the “Cleo Street Barge.” This ship met its rocky resting place in 1958, and is now home to an abundance of underwater sea life. A perfect destination for experienced divers and snorkelers.

South Laguna is a local’s favorite. Away from the hustle-and-bustle, the southernmost part of the city has a special vibe of its own. If you’re interested in mountain biking, you might consider joining a class or exploring a variety of rides at Nix Nature Center; another great option for riding the trails would be to contact the experienced pros at Laguna Beach Cyclery, who can provide you with rentals, sales, or an on-hand if you just have a question before hitting the trails! The most notable bike routes in Laguna are the Shady Canyon Trail loop, Cave Rock, Crystal Cove State Park, and the Enduro time route! Remember to review the trail difficulty before setting out, though, since Laguna offers many advanced tracks!

Take a Sawdust Studio Art Class and create your own unique art piece in just one, two-hour session. Ceramics, jewelry, fused glass and other mediums are available. Lessons are taught by professional artists. Group classes are available midweek with advanced notice.

The Official Laguna Beach Visitors Center offers complimentary collateral on the Laguna Beach area, as well as surrounding areas, information on accommodations, dining, art events, city maps, bus schedules, outdoor activities and more. The Visitors Center located at 381 Forest Avenue is open daily, 10am-5pm.
