At their heart, The Salty Suites are the musical partnership of Chelsea Williams and Chuck Hailes. While guest musicians occasionally join them on stage, the foundation of the group has always been the remarkable chemistry between these two accomplished artists. Whether performing as a duo or welcoming additional collaborators, audiences can always count on Chelsea and Chuck to deliver an evening of extraordinary musicianship, heartfelt songs, and genuine connection. Drawing inspiration from bluegrass, early country, swing, classical music, and folk traditions from around the world, The Salty Suites have created a sound that is both deeply rooted and refreshingly original. Their performances blend soaring harmonies, exceptional instrumental work, humor, and storytelling into a musical experience that feels timeless and entirely their own. The group’s story began in 2009 when Chelsea Williams, Chuck Hailes, and Scott Gates first shared a stage while opening for John McEuen of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. One performance of Hank Williams’ “Lovesick Blues” sparked a collaboration that would grow into a beloved musical project, producing four independent albums, extensive touring, and a loyal following that continues to grow. Laguna Beach audiences know Chelsea Williams as one of the community’s most treasured musical talents. Before signing with Interscope Records, Chelsea famously sold more than 100,000 CDs while performing on street corners throughout Southern California. Her music later became the centerpiece of major national Ford advertising campaigns that aired during some of America’s most-watched television events, including the Super Bowl, NBA Finals, World Series, American Idol, The Voice, and The X Factor. Despite opportunities to pursue a more commercial path, Chelsea remained devoted to the acoustic, country, and bluegrass traditions that first inspired her. Today, Laguna Beach proudly embraces her as one of its own. Alongside her stands Chuck Hailes, whose songwriting has evolved into one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary roots music. His songs explore themes of humanity, compassion, freedom, and connection, offering thoughtful reflections on what unites us rather than what divides us. With wisdom, humor, and authenticity, Chuck has found a voice that resonates deeply with audiences and brings an uncommon sense of perspective to his music.
