Set within the Center’s acclaimed listening room environment, the performance brings together three highly respected musicians known for their sensitivity, interplay, and deep reverence for the jazz tradition. A respected guitarist, educator, and composer on the Southern California jazz scene, Brandon Bernstein is recognized for his lyrical improvisation, warm tone, and refined modern interpretation of jazz. His critically praised recording But Beautiful, featuring legendary bassist Putter Smith and drummer Kendall Kay, reached the Top 10 on national jazz radio charts and earned acclaim for its melodic sensitivity and understated elegance. Over the years, Bernstein has performed, studied, and collaborated with artists including Wynton Marsalis, Jimmy Heath, Larry Coryell, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Delfeayo Marsalis, Eric Reed, and Larry Koonse, among many others. On acoustic bass is Blake White, a Los Angeles-based bassist, composer, and educator with more than three decades of international performance experience. Joining the trio on drums is Kendall Kay, the internationally respected South African-born drummer known for performances and recordings with artists including Rickie Lee Jones, Diane Schuur, Clare Fischer, John Pisano, Allan Broadbent, and Mark Murphy. Known for its warm acoustics and intimate atmosphere, the Laguna Beach Cultural Arts Center has become a unique destination for live jazz and creative music on the California coast, presenting world-class artists in a setting designed for deep listening and authentic musical connection.
