At the beginning of the 20th century, Black Americans owned millions of acres of farmland across the United States. Today, only a small fraction of that land remains in Black hands. Seeds begins with that simple, unsettling fact and asks how so much was lost, often quietly, over generations.
This deeply human documentary follows Black farmers in the American South whose families worked the land for decades, only to see it taken through discriminatory lending, broken promises, legal manipulation, and systems designed to exclude. Rather than focusing on statistics alone, Seeds lets the people most affected tell the story themselves, revealing how land loss shaped families, communities, and opportunity.
At its heart, Seeds is about inheritance, stewardship, and resilience. It shows how land represents more than property. It carries memory, independence, and the possibility of passing something meaningful forward. When land is taken, the loss echoes far beyond a single generation.
As part of Black History Month, this screening offers a chance to better understand a chapter of American history that is rarely discussed, yet central to conversations about wealth, inequality, and belonging today. A post-film community discussion will follow, creating space for reflection, questions, and shared perspective.
