Main Beach in Laguna will again be the site of a community-wide Easter Sunrise celebration, starting at 6 a.m. Sunday, April 5.
“Many people come year after year,” said Rev. Courtney Mackey, Senior Pastor of Laguna Beach United Methodist Church (LBUMC). “Others wander in for the first time from an early morning dog walk, surprised to find hundreds of their happy neighbors there. It’s truly a celebration for everybody,” he said, “and an experience of hope, unity and uplift in a time when all of that is sorely need.”
Music is a big part of the celebration, with a live band and songbooks passed out so that all can join in the singing. After a brief message, all are invited forward for open-table communion. As always, the service will culminate with attendees helping to decorate a cross with flowers and blowing bubbles to celebrate.
“We encourage everyone to come, whether you’re the “church-going type or not,” said Megan Waters, director of Worship and Arts at LBUMC. “Just bring a beach chair, warm, comfy clothes and a heart open to love and hope.
Coffee and donuts will be served ahead of the service, starting at 5:45 a.m.
There will also be an indoor service at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary of Laguna Beach United Methodist Church, 21632 Wesley Drive, Laguna Beach. For more information, visit https://lbumc.org/holyweek.
