Black History Month Kickoff: A Celebration of the Blues | Join us on Friday, February 13, at the Laguna Beach Cultural Arts Center as we open Black History Month with a powerful tribute to one of America’s most influential art forms: the blues. Born from Black experience and resilience, the blues is the foundation of nearly every modern music genre we know today. This special evening launches a Black History Month Blues Series, showcasing living blues legends and some of the finest players working today, carrying this vital tradition forward. Headlining the night is Oscar Wilson, the commanding frontman of the acclaimed Cash Box Kings. Wilson’s performances are steeped in authenticity and soul, shaped by a deep family lineage in the blues and delivered with a presence that is both raw and deeply human. His voice tells stories of struggle, survival, and spirit, the very heart of the blues tradition. Joining him is Billy Flynn, a Chicago Blues Hall of Fame inductee whose guitar work has helped define modern Chicago blues. Flynn’s playing is expressive, grounded, and timeless, a master craftsman honoring the past while keeping the music alive and relevant today. This is more than a concert. It is a celebration of Black cultural legacy, a recognition of the artists who shaped American music, and a reminder that the blues is not history, it is living, breathing, and essential. We invite you to be part of this opening night of Black History Month – an evening of music, meaning, and community, right here in Laguna Beach.
