A Flag Walk for Our Future, presented in collaboration with Laguna Art Museum, is a participatory project conceived by American painter Kim Manfredi that engages visitors with the natural environment while reflecting on how shared social agreements shape our experience of place. Rooted in Manfredi’s ongoing exploration of painting, nature and cultural frameworks, the project builds on research developed during her residency at BoxoPROJECTS in Joshua Tree.
At its core, the work considers social agreements—the often-unspoken rules, protections and pathways that guide how we move through public space—as evolving structures that balance access and care. Elements such as waterfront paths and wheelchair-accessible trails shape how we walk, pause and gather, mediating our relationship to the landscape.
