Main Beach

Among all the stretches of sand in Laguna Beach, none is more iconic, more recognizable, or more accessible to the masses than Main Beach. Its famous lifeguard tower often appears in TV and movies. Olympians are known to show up to play pick up volleyball. Michael Jordan once spent a few hours dominating the shockingly scenic basketball court.

This is one of America’s truly “must visit” beaches. It’s bucket list worthy — a place you really ought to experience for yourself.

You won’t get as much space to spread your towel at Main Beach, but with basketball, volleyball, a grassy park, a boardwalk, public art installations, and usually-mellow waves, there’s no shortage of activities either. There are public restrooms at the north and south ends of the beach and benches for people watching on the boardwalk. If you have kids, they’ll be thrilled to climb on the play structure, situated near the southern bathrooms. Lifeguards, wearing easily recognizable red board shorts, patrol the area, always eager to help visitors understand ocean currents and potential dangers.

This is one of the most well-known beaches on the planet. Unless you’re extremely crowd averse, you should definitely see it at least once.
