LAM’s Art + Nature Speaker Series

November 8, 2025 (6:00 pm – 7:30 pm)

On Saturday, Nov. 8 at 6 p.m., Laguna Art Museum (LAM) hosts Dr. Jonathan Trent, renowned scientist and innovator, as part of their Art + Nature Speaker Series. Trent takes audiences on a fascinating journey through the intertwined worlds of ocean exploration, space science and sustainable technology.

Dr. Jonathan Trent will discuss the worlds of ocean exploration, space science and sustainable technology on November 8
Trent began his lifelong relationship with water and the ocean as a surfer, sailor and SCUBA diver. At the university (UCSC), this connection evolved into serious science, exploring the surface of the open ocean with SCUBA and the deep ocean in the research submarine Alvin. Along the way he became a biologist, studying the limits of life on earth and for NASA the possibilities of life beyond. In this talk, he will share images and stories from his “world of water” – what the ocean has taught him about life, resilience and sustainability. Also, how water now plays a pivotal role in his current work – cooling data centers and powering a greener future.
From surfing and open ocean diving to exploring life in outer space, Trent’s journey has always revolved around water. He will share stories and images from the ocean that reveal how water defines life on earth and now inspires innovative solutions for resilience and sustainability.
