Sometimes people ask us if we invented the term "art festivals." No, no, we'd never deign to be so arrogant, but we do put on some of the most renowned art festivals in the world!
In late June, our globally famous Sawdust Art Festival opens its enormous wood doors (just passing its 50th local Laguna Beach artists, while Laguna Art-A-Fair opens just a half block down from Sawdust, and featuring 125 international and domestic artists who have been juried into the show (it's been happening since 1948).
Just across Laguna Canyon Road and down another half block is Festival of Arts, an outdoor art festival that features 140 of Southern California's finest artists. And one must be sure not to miss the world-famous Pageant of the Masters (over 80 years old). The Pageant begins the first week of July, and is the only one of its kind in the world. Its tagline, "Where art comes to life" can't even begin to describe what you actually see occurring on stage - it simply has to be experienced.
Every September, audiences can experience top-quality performances from international and national dance companies during the Laguna Dance Festival.
Of course, "art" by way of music festivals occur all year long, and through the winter, too. Aside from all sorts of concert series in various parks and mini-festivals dotting the calendar year, Laguna Beach Live! brings nationally talented jazz musicians in year-round, and also produces the acclaimed Laguna Beach Music Festival each February.
