The artist discusses his work, including the 2017 Art & Nature commission Seascape.Pablo Vargas Lugo was born in Mexico City in 1968. He studied at the National School of Visual Arts in the National University of Mexico from 1988 to 1993. Since 1991 his work has been shown extensively in Mexico, South America, the United States, and Europe. Among his most important solo exhibitions are micromegas, at Museo Amparo, Puebla and Museo Tamayo in Mexico City; Intemperie at Museo Experimental El Eco in Mexico City; Eclipses for Austin at the Blanton Museum of Art; Contemporary Projects at LACMA in Los Angeles; and Congo Bravo at Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil in Mexico City.
Lugo's work has been shown at the 26th Bienal de São Paulo and the 5th Mercosul Biennial in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and in institutions such as the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, Palais de Tokyo in Paris, the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and MALBA in Buenos Aires. He lives and works in Mexico City.
