Alli and Bobby here from Traveling Newlyweds. Are you ready for two of the best-kept secrets in Laguna Beach? Both of them happen to take place on Wednesday nights… causing us to believe that Wednesday nights just might be the new Friday night! Here’s how we “jazzed up” our typical mid-week date night… starting with live music hosted by Laguna Beach Live!
 
Jazz Wednesdays
 
For only $25 per person (if you buy in advance, $30 at the door), you can attend Laguna Beach Live’s Jazz Wednesdays, hosted at [Seven-Degrees]. Not only is the venue beautiful (planning a wedding? Check this place out!), but the music is jaw-dropping. 
 
Every week they switch up the style and band, the one we attended was Mark Towns Latin Jazz Band, and we were tapping our toes the whole time. There was even a special appearance by Bijon Watson, who played trumpet in one of our favorite movies, “La La Land”! Talk about top-notch entertainment!! The show starts at 6pm and goes until 8pm, giving you two full hours to enjoy the live music, have a drink (or two!), and even dance along. It’s relaxing, inspiring, and extremely romantic.

They have a full bar and catered dinner/snacks for guests to purchase, as well as a ten-minute intermission halfway through. We met new friends and admired the community and camaraderie that we saw. It’s truly a social event that people from all over Southern California and Los Angeles attend. (Find more information and the weekly schedule HERE)
 
As if the night could get any better, one of our favorite restaurants in downtown Laguna Beach, 370 Common, has what they call “Wino Wednesdays”. It’s a special 3-course seasonal tasting menu that’s paired with wines hand-picked by their chef/owner, Ryan Adams. At just $42 per person, it’s not only a great deal - but it’s SO delicious and changes weekly. We also had the best waiter who made the evening extra special - be sure to ask for Gregory when you go!

Here’s a breakdown of what we had:

1st Course: Delicata Squash Ravioli with Sage Brown Butter/Seeds paired with Dry Creek Vineyards Chenin Blanc

Alli’s favorite dish of the night - this dish took comfort food to a whole other level. There’s something about brown butter and pasta paired with a crisp white wine… Just heavenly. We’ll be dreaming about this for awhile.

2nd Course: Scallops with Leek Cream/Onion/Truffle/Smoke/Mushroom/Herb paired with Forested Pinot Noir

Scallop lovers, take note. Chef Ryan knows how to delicately prepare them so that they’re cooked to perfection. The flavor, texture, and carmelized crust on the outside was flawless. And the smooth and light Pinot Noir was the perfect addition to this course.

3rd Course: Meyer Lemon-Pistachio Bar with Creme Fraiche/Luxardo Syrup and paired with Dulce Late Harvest

Remember those amazing lemon bars your grandma used to make when you were a kid? This dessert was kind of like that - but next level. After tasting this, we’re convinced Crème fraîche should be in every dessert! Paired with a sweet white wine, this was the perfect way to end the night.

Needless to say, we can’t think of a better break in the workweek routine. You know where we’ll be every Wednesday, but let’s just keep this our little secret.
