Kids are back in school, the sun is shining, and Saturdays are once again the best day of the week. Spend a couple of hours, or the whole day in Laguna Beach, a day made for relaxing, exploring, laughing, and eating. With the sun soaking your skin, a Saturday in Laguna Beach is the perfect way to spend a day with your family.
Start your morning at Farmer’s Market. This collection of local and organic growers, artisans, and food craftspeople is a delicious and healthy way to shop. Try samples of fresh-made salsa and grab a crunchy bag of chips, nosh on bacon-wrapped hot dogs with grilled veggies, or purchase frozen empanadas made daily to take home and bake. Sip on gut-healthy kombucha while you shop at artisan market booths of hand-made textiles, artisan breads, and flower arrangements.
Every Saturday from 8am - 12 noon on Lot 12: Lumberyard Lot
Beach & Boardwalk
Spend the morning at one of the beaches in town. With crystal, aqua-marine waters, tide pools, and long stretches of sand, Laguna is the best place in SoCal to enjoy the ocean. Main Beach is especially fun for families with easy access to restrooms, calm waves, a tide pool to the north, and a fun lifeguard-themed playground to the south. Walk along the boardwalk and watch volleyball and basketball players and enjoy the fantastic views. Other top beaches include Crescent Bay to the north and Cress St. Beach to the south.
Shopping & Art Galleries
Shop along the small streets of Laguna Beach at the wide assortment of boutique sellers, clothing stores, toy shops, and even a fun candy store. Art galleries are plentiful, boasting incredible displays of paintings, photographs, and many other art mediums. Kids will especially enjoy the The Art of Dr. Suess Gallery viewing large paintings and drawings that are featured in his many works.
Enjoy lunch at one of the many delicious restaurants in Laguna Beach. Johnny Rockets with nickel jukeboxes is fun with kids. La Serina Grill for delicious Mexican food, Big Fish Tavern for brews and fish tacos, BJs for the best pizza, or Gu Ramen for Thai represents the wide variety of great restaurants. Grab a picnic lunch from Farmer’s Market or Whole Foods to take to the beach and enjoy!
Laguna Beach Trolley
The Laguna Beach Trolley is a fun and FREE way to cruise through town, saving on the stress of driving and finding parking spots. Hop on and off this open-air mini-bus to get to different beaches and art galleries. With trolleys running frequently, there isn’t a long wait and it’s a fun way to see the town.
Weekends September through late June. Daily July & August.
On busy weekends, driving through Laguna Beach and finding a parking spot can be a slow and stressful prospect. A great option is to park at the large lot along Laguna Canyon Road before you get into town. The free trolley comes by frequently to take visitors to the Sawdust Festival and the beaches of Laguna. During summer weekends, park at a free lot near the 405 and the 133 and hop aboard the Laguna Beach Summer Breeze bus, taking happy travelers all the way to the beach for free. Many streets in Laguna offer metered parking with credit card purchase of time. The 2 level parking structure on Glenneyre is a good option to find 3 hour parking at a good price.
Make sure to stay for the most beautiful views of the setting sun over the Pacific Ocean. Pick up wine for the adults and juice for the kids, cheese, crackers, and cookies, and go to a picnic spot for a spectacular sunset view. Heisler Park and Crescent Bay Point Park to the north or Treasure Island Park and the cliffs by the Montage Laguna Beach are some of the most beautiful spots to go.
