Laguna Beach is a paradise for art lovers with its countless galleries, art installations, festivals, shows, and more, but are these good spots to take kids? The short answer... absolutely! Art should and can be enjoyed by all ages and what better place to do that then in Laguna Beach. Here are some top ideas for enjoying art with kids in this artistic paradise.

Sawdust Art Festival

Sawdust Festival Art Class Laguna Beach

With a grin, the art instructor told us to take paint onto our brushes and then smear it over our canvas. My daughter and I were taking one of the daily art festival classes and our instructor was one of the 200 plus artists exhibiting their art at the Sawdust Festival. We got to take home our small canvas with a mix of colors and design that we learned from Hugo Rivera, and when we saw the art displayed in his booth we had a greater appreciation for artists! My son threw his first clay vase on a pottery wheel with the help of local artists and he now swears he wants to sit at the pottery wheel every year at the festival. Kids love exploring the sawdust trails, viewing impressive art from all mediums, and dancing with live music. Parents won't want to miss watching glass be blown or dropping into the Art Spot for some hands-on creating for young kids. The 2018 festival will take place June 29 - September 2.

Family Art Studio at Laguna Art Museum

 Kid's Art Studio Laguna Beach

Stop by this art station once a month to participate in art creation as a family. Kids and their parents work from start to finish on an art piece inspired by art on exhibit. Materials are provided and admission is free for children and accompanying adults. Stop by on the upcoming dates on February 18, March 18 and  April 15, 2018 from 2-4pm. Reservations are required.

Art Galleries

 Dr Seuss Laguna Beach

On every street in Laguna, visitors can find quiet galleries with art on display in a range of themes and styles. Parents may not consider kids and art galleries to mix well but they can be great ways to carefully introduce art to kids. Many will be familiar of the artist Wyland and his iconic displays of large marine animals. Whales and dolphins can be found inside his home gallery with fantastic views out the patio of the ocean. Kids will be delighted to see the art of Dr. Seuss at the Exclusive Collections Gallery near Main Beach. His original art, unique souvenirs, and impressive statues are on display for everyone's enjoyment. Before visiting art galleries with kids, be sure they can keep their hands to themselves, walk slowly, and be respectful of the art inside. A great way to view these art galleries is to hop on the free shuttle and stop at galleries around town.

Art Installations

Throughout this artistic community are scattered large and small art installations, and many are sure to catch kid's eyes. Try a self-created scavenger hunt to find murals, sculptures, tile-works, and ocean designs. Heisler Park is home to several of these impressive installations, and even Bluebird Park has its own art with a tiled turtle that kids love to play on. Enjoy all of this art with your kids and see the beauty all around you!

Art on Social Media

Let kids practice taking photos or posing by works of art. Photography is one of my favorite art forms! Share on social media platforms and be sure to include #MyLagunaBeach to share your photo with us!
