THIS WEEK, we asked Laguna Beach moms and daughters what their perfect Mother’s Day would look like and received a wide range of answers filled with fantastic ideas. Use these snippets as inspiration as you start to mull your own Mother’s Day plans.
OUR DAY STARTS with a short coastal hike Crystal Cove State Park. We'll then stop for a shake at Ruby's Crystal Cove Shake Shack—my mom loves the unique combinations of flavors they have there. Afterwards, we'll go down to the beach for a while and enjoy some sunbathing and ocean toe dipping. We'll end our Mother's Day by window-shopping in downtown Laguna Beach where my mom likes to touch literally everything she sees!??

HAPPY KIDS, HAPPY MOM! As a busy Mom of school-aged children, it can be difficult to find the time to slow down and simply enjoy being together. I'd love to have a day with the family cruising down the PCH to my favorite Laguna Beach haunts; starting with a cappuccino and a breakfast burrito at Zinc Cafe. I like the no fuss walk-up counter at Zinc and the vegetarian menu items, but mostly I love the outdoor seating that reminds me of a French cafe. With full bellies, we'd head to a few of my favorite downtown shops. Areo is my go-to store to find unique gifts and I can never seem to walk out of LF Stores without buying a new fun skirt or a breezy top. When you're in Laguna Beach there's no way you can escape without at least getting your feet a little sandy. We like to start walking at Main Beach and head south along the coastline. Stopping occasionally to chase waves, watch skim boarders or simply take in the beautiful views over the water and out to Catalina Island. One of my all-time favorite restaurants for lunch is Tommy Bahama on PCH. They have killer Ahi tuna tacos that are served in a wonton shell that may just be the best tacos I've ever had. Their ‘Sunburn' cocktail with St-Germain Elderflower and muddled jalapeño is perfect for a sunny afternoon. We'd end our day in Laguna Beach just like we started, cruising back up PCH taking in the beauty of Laguna's stunning shoreline.

SLEEP IN! That is how the day begins…followed by hugs and love from hubby, kids and dog. Coffee pressed just so into my favorite china cup and brought to me before my feet hit the floor or head rises from the pillow. After that, an early arrival to Surf & Sand Resort. This is where I change into a lounge lizard and move slowly and seamlessly from pool to chair and back again. Lots of fun “sun” drinks are delivered as well as a chopped salad at noon. Did I mention the arrival of peri peri chicken from Mozambique for dinner, poolside? Our after-dinner drinks require movement—a short stroll along the sand to “The Deck” where I order a mojito with extra mint. Then a stroll right back to the pool at the Surf & Sand. Dessert means a phone call to Active Culture. Delivery service sends over vanilla with raspberry topping.

MY MOTHER-IN-LAW, Carrie, passed away almost three years ago, but she loved Laguna Beach from the time she first visited in the 1950s. If she were here with us, I would love to take her to the Mother’s Day brunch at Nirvana Grille and then to the Laguna Art Museum. She was a wonderful artist and painter, and I think she would have enjoyed the Frank Cuprien exhibit. Afterwards, if she was up for it, I think it would be fun to visit the spot where she posed for this photograph during her first visit to Laguna Beach all those years ago.

THERE IS NO BETTER way to celebrate Mom than to spend time together with Mother Nature.  We'll start with a nice, long hike through our favorite hiking spot, Laguna Canyon, where all trails lead to a blissful state of relaxation and the serene feelings that only nature can give.  Next, it’s down to our newest favorite beach spot: Treasure Island at Montage Laguna Beach.  The little beach below the resort is perfect for a dip in the calm waters and gives a vacation feel, as you hear foreign languages being spoken all around. After a picnic lunch on the beach, we'll head over to Gelato Paradiso for dessert.  We'll stroll down to Main Beach, ice cream cone in hand, watch some volleyball, and dig our toes back in the sand.
