Mellor Day Proclaimed in Laguna Beach

Published: 04/18/2017
Laguna Beach City Council has proclaimed April 11th Mellor Day as proclaimed by Mayor Toni Iseman in her presentation to Suzanne and James Mellor at Tuesday's City Council meeting. "We have watched you support the arts over the years and are so grateful that you have done so much for us," said Mayor Iseman as she read the proclamation.

This proclamation was coordinated with the help of the Laguna Playhouse Gala Honorary Circle Committee, which includes Glenn Gray and Kathryn Burton Gray, Diane Liljestrom, Lisa Hale, Joe Hanauer, Ellen Richard, Paul Singarella, Terri Turner, Ilona Martin, and Karyn Philippsen. Suzanne and James Mellor are the honorees of this year's Laguna Playhouse gala in celebration of decades of philanthropy and leadership for the arts in Laguna Beach.

The Honorary Committee has helped raise more than $60,000 towards the Suzanne and James Mellor Laguna Playhouse Tribute Fund, which will provide theatre experiences to youth from underserved communities. Each dollar raised from friends and supporters of the Mellors and the Laguna Playhouse have been generously matched by Suzanne and James Mellor.

The gala, which will be held at the Island Hotel on April 29th is currently sold out, with a waiting list to attend. Supporters from as far East as Washington D.C. are participating in this year's gala to show their support to Suzanne and Jim. Currently, more than $400,000 has been generated by the gala in sponsorships, ticket sales, and the tribute fund.

"We are so excited to be able to honor Suzanne and Jim at the gala and recognize them for all that they have done to support the Playhouse over the years," said Ellen Richard, Laguna Playhouse Executive Director. "Their contributions to the Playhouse and the entire Laguna Beach arts community has kept Laguna Beach a world-class destination for the arts."
